Simple C5+ recovery

Simple C5+ recovery

Simple C5+ recovery

(OP)
In a 12 MMSCFD pipeline, some liquid hydrocarbon carry over is now produced (not expected during project), now some possible solutions are trying to be proposed. The whole gas pipeline is within a very isolated area, but a crude line is available. So the initial idea is to recover C5+ and mix into liquid line. The loss of gas heating value is not an issue.

For an area, where only some electrical power is available, what method do you recommend to simply recover C5+. Gas is available at 475 psig and 100 °F average.

Membranes?, use of crude line as solvent?, JT expansion?. Utilities are a limitation, maintenance and operations as well.

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

not knowing the amount and composition ist a bit tricky. But to me it seems like you own idear with a turbo expander and recovery of the condensate that then could be injected into the crude seems OK.

But even with a turbo expander you will experiense permanent pressure loss and would need to recompress further if the original pressure is required. Now this project is becomming rather expensive...

Best regards

Morten

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

Dear JoeNava,

One possible solution is a patented device called the REVEX Mass Transfer Uniter (Revex MTU).

After you have looked at a drawing or picture of a Revex MTU, the following steps will make sense to you:

(1) The gas will enter the Revex MTU through the porous sintered tube.
(2) Crude will enter into the Revex MTU via the volute to create a vortex.
(3) The crude will ride on a gas boundary layer.
(4) C5+ should exit with crude from Revex MTU
(5) Light ends will be collected in the vortex finder with the gas.

Now, you will have two separate streams - gas and crude.  But as Morten stated you may have to recompress the gas stream.  Likewise the crude oil may have to be repressurized.

Is the Revex MTU a solution for you.  I don't know?  You can see the Revex MTU at Revext Technologies website:

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

in conjunction with previous posts, have the expander drive a compressor (mafi-trench or rotoflow).  this is done in several gas processing facilities throughout the world & usa.  the only concern is developing enough head for required flow conditions.  as far as injecting the c5+ into crude pipeline, not a problem either - it is done up at prudhoe bay!

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

Hi, JoeNava

Since your are in an area with remote area,
you may want to consider a silica gel adsorption process using Sorbead to remove the excess C5+.
It's an outdated process, but with no large utilities in the area it may be the way to go. A HC dewpoint of -10°C is achievable depending on your process conditions and maybe sufficient for your needs. Do not know much about pro's and con's, but contact vendor.  Also see Thread124-0

A Google search turned up Engelhard Process Chemicals GmbH (Germany) as the manufacturer of the economical and environmentally friendly adsorbents Sorbead/Trockenperlen

Hope this may be of use

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

Dear freinds,
I would like to know the amount of electrical energy (approximately)that can be generated by passing Natural Gas thruogh an expander-generator.
Inlet : 55kg/cm2g , 30° celcius AND 1.2MMSCMD GAS
outlet : 18kg/cm2
how can I go about to calculate the shaft work?

Composition:
C1 = 82.682,  C2 =6.966, C3 =3.768, C4 = 1.007, C5= 0.187
 C6 =0.118, N2=    0.069,    CO2 =4.611, SPEC.GRAVTY =0.701
NCV =8979.2195    KCAL/SCM
Presently this energy is unutilised as the gas is being let down throgh PCV.
PLEASE HELP.

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

Do an isenthalphic expansion of the gas and calculate the theoretical enthalphy you could extract out of it.

A real world unit will likely be about 80% of that.

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

Thank you very much for the reply. could you plaese eloberate . Is there any site I can find the specific heat data of natuarl gas.

Here's another technology to consider:

RE: Simple C5+ recovery

Dear TD2K

I think to calculate the available energy for Expanders

 ÄH= CpT1 [ 1-(p2/p1){k-1}/k ] x .5

equation is used.

can you plaese tell me how to get the H , Cp and k values.
