taper roller bearing adjustment (face to face)

(OP)
We have a water pump (Sulzer man.)that the located bearing in this pump are pair taper roller bearing (31319) which mounted face to face.
The floating bearing of this pump is a NU bearing.
For repair this pump we need change the locating bearing.
In simple way how we can calculate the length (tolerance) of ring between outer rings of 31319 bearings and how we can adjust the axial internal clearance of bearing pair 31319.

RE: taper roller bearing adjustment (face to face)

Contact the pump manufacturer for the
information.  Possibly NU may have some
guidance as well.

RE: taper roller bearing adjustment (face to face)

1.  Measure the spacer that you took out.  It's already designed "correctly" by the pump OEM.  If it was ruined some how, then I agree check with the OEM to see if they'll give you the details.

2.  Otherwise this is not one of the easiest things to do form scratch, you need to know the running expansion of the system.  The initial clearance of the bearing pair is usually set so that at running conditions it runs at zero clearance.  Then by the system design......

3.  The Application Engineers at Timken should be able to help.  Alternatively, SKF, NSK, NTN...any of the big companies that offer Application Engineering services.  Have drawings ready for them.....
