typical transmission line parameters
typical transmission line parameters
(OP)
has anybody got a ready reference to typical transmission line parameters e.g. for given voltage and current rating I want to get resistance, reactance etc.
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

RE: typical transmission line parameters
R depends on wire size and hence current carrying capacity, and X on wire spacing and hnce voltage level.

RE: typical transmission line parameters
Exact values can be calculated based on the conductor size and voltage level of your line. Also, the number of bundles per phase is important. If you just need some general realistic values by voltage level, here they are:
138 kv lines
Resistance = 0.1 - 0.25 ohms/mile
Reactance = 0.60 ohms/mile
Susceptance = 4.5 micro-mhos/mile
230 kv lines
Resistance = 0.05 - 0.1 ohms/mile
Reactance = 0.50 ohms/mile
Susceptance = 5.5 micro-mhos/mile
345 kv lines
Resistance = 0.03 - 0.05 ohms/mile
Reactance = 0.40 ohms/mile
Susceptance = 6.0 micro-mhos/mile
500 kv lines
Resistance = 0.02 - 0.04 ohms/mile
Reactance = 0.30 ohms/mile
Susceptance = 6.5 micro-mhos/mile
