efficient method to solve damped free vibrations

Hi,

For one of my projects, I am thinking to use dynamic stiffness method or transfer matrix method to tackle damped free vibrations of a structre system. This is essentially to compute complex eigenvalues and their corresponding complex mode shapes. The resulting characteristic equation would be a transcendental function of the complex eigenvalue. Does anyone here have the experience of solve a complex transcendental function efficiently and how? Thanks so much.

RE: efficient method to solve damped free vibrations

Is the system a linear one?
