Can anyone tell me more about beach drainage as a method for beach erosion protection.

RE: Beachface dewatering

The fundamental and ultimate reason for beach erosion is development of quick sand condition by various natural and artificail reasons.  In some cases, the quick sand condition can be prevented by nullyfying the effect of permeated seawater into beach sand.  A perforated pipeline along the beach is buried to collect this percolated seawater and allowed to move by gravity in this pipeline to a lower elevation.  This collected water is then pumped out to a safer place.  There are various practical conditions to be considered for implementing this concept in the field.

A reply at last!  My original posting was to 'test the water' with Eng-Tips.  I have subsequently become closely involved in the development of the technology.  Check out www.beachdrainage.com for an academic site covering the subject.
