UV effects on polyurethane

UV effects on polyurethane

UV effects on polyurethane

(OP)
I am looking for information of effects on a polyrethane product due to UV exposure (sun exposure)
- aging effect
- degradation (visible or not)
- loose of characteristics
- etc..

Does the type of polyurethane be a parameter ?

RE: UV effects on polyurethane

Yes
I don't know the details of the top of my head, but some chemical types of PU are much more inherenty UV stable than others.

Companies like Bayer or BASF should be able to provide full details.

I can search some old files if really necessary

Regards
pat

Pat,

Thanks for your input. I am looking to documents about UV effect on driving belts polyurethane jacket with steel cords inside (looking like the ones used to drive a starter or an alternator in the car)

Any information may help.

Thanks in advance

Gijom

RE: UV effects on polyurethane

yes hddp is sesptable to uv if you put a uv stab. in the mix it will cut down on uv degrgation

RE: UV effects on polyurethane

Compare to other diene elastomers , Polyurethanes show good weathering properties. However the show slight embritlement under sun after years of exposure. It depends on  weather conditions (ozone, oxigen sun) and PU type:Polyether based slightly more resistant than polyester based
