What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

(OP)
I am looking for the properties of Nicromol.  I am guessing it is a nickel-chrome alloy, Nicromol is probably a brand name, and it is likely obsolete.

RE: What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

Wow!  That's a new one.  I'll be interested in the answer, too.

My guess is that it is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy.  But would it be a superalloy or just a moly bearing stainless steel.

RE: What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

A Google search did not yield any result.

RE: What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

Nothing by that name in Stahlschlussel or Woldman's. (NiCroMo W and similar names exist, though).

RE: What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

Your guess is close. Nichroma is a stainless steel grade used for welding filler. It was manufactured by Lincoln Smitweld BV, and its nominal composition is C 0.025, Cr 20.0, Mn 0.8, Mo 2.3, Ni 9.5, and Si 1.0. This grade is typically used for welding dissimilar joints and repair welding. They also manufactured a grade called Nicromo, which is a Cr and Mo alloyed Ni-base electrode suitable for welding alloy 59, alloy C276, Cu and C22.

RE: What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

This may be a Nichrome-based plating process similar to Alocrom.

RE: What is Nicromol (or Nichromol)?

Alocrom is a chromate conversion coating brand available in the UK (similar to Alodine or Iridite 14-2 in the US).
