Pressure Tank Sizing

Pressure Tank Sizing

Pressure Tank Sizing

(OP)
What would be most commonly used pump running time for sizing of pressure tanks? Pump capacity will be in the range of 100 to 150 gpm. I have seen deferent numbers around, like 6x, 10x or not more than 25 times per hour pump cycle. Anybody knows a good literature/article or online catalogue on pressure tanks with some real world numbers in it?

Thank you

RE: Pressure Tank Sizing

I would need more information about the system to help.
How long is the pressurized mainline, what type of material is the mainline, what are the expected flow rates and if there are discrete valves opening and closing then how many "zones", and what is the smallest and largest zone, and also elevations in the system.
Even with all that information, and based on answers to those questions, you may find a variety of opinions.
If system is very small, say less than 1,000 feet, pressure tank will have simple calculations and significant impact on cycle times.  If however mainline is long enough to store significant energy then pressure tank becomes a smaller factor.

Pumpdesigner,
Thank you for the response. This is a small system to supply a plant. Expected average flow rate 50 gpm, peak flow 100 gpm, pump capacity 100 gpm. Distance between well and tank 150 feet, between tank and plant 250 feet, plant is at 15 feet higher elevation then tank.
