FDA approved plastic?

FDA approved plastic?

FDA approved plastic?

(OP)
I have a plate made of sans plastic.  The manufacturer insists that it is microwave and dishwasher safe, but I have yet to receive the supporting documentation.  Is anyone familiar with this plastic and can you point me in a direction to find the fda support.

thanks

RE: FDA approved plastic?

Hi steelerboy,
SAN is the abbreviation for Styrene-Acrylonitrile Copolymer. There are not many FDA-approved grades available because most SAN types contain residual amounts of Styrene monomer, which has to be stripped away in a special (and expensive) processing step to set it below the FDA limits. Major manufacturers of SAN are BASF, Dow, and a few others. Please contact one of these for more info.
