How to open files from Intralink

How to open files from Intralink

How to open files from Intralink

(OP)
Our company would like to start putting Excel and PowerPoint files into our Intralink database and be able to have some revision control just like with our pro/e files.

I've logged into our Intralink account using the administrator password and I've added .xls and .ppt file types.

However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get these files to open when right clicking when in Intralink. From what I've read in the help files, I have to set a variable (i.e. $excel_path) to the path where excel resides on our computers. But, the help file doesn't tell me where to set this system variable at.

Once I get that variable set, what do I need to do to get the files to launch?

Thanks,

Brent

RE: How to open files from Intralink

The line in our Intralink Admin - Object Type window for Excel looks like this and it works fine.  This method doesn't use the variable though.

excel    *.xls    Microsoft Excel Worksheet

The Launch Command is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\EXCEL.EXE #FILE

The View Command is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\EXCEL.EXE #FILE

To make it work using the variable method you have to go into your computer's System Properties, Advanced tab, Environment Variables.  Keep in mind that any variable you add is going to be key sensitive so you'll have enter it the same in Intralink.

After you import your excel file into Intralink you just highlight it, right click, and open.
