Japanese Material Specs.

(OP)
Could anybody help me or point me to the right direction to find British equivalents for Japanese materials.

I'm trying to order tooling from drawings with the following descriptions : -

S45C

SS400

A20179-T4 (I think this is a carbon alloy alumium)

YH52

STS38

I am struggling to source equivalents!

Also the A20179-T4 has a 30micron coating of "Kashima", now I have never even heard of this.  Is this or a coating with similar properties available in the UK?

Thanking you in anticipation,

                            Paul

S 45 C is a plain carbon steel, with a C content of 0.42-0.48.  Equivalent BS grades would be C 45 according to BS EN 10083-2 (old BS 970 Part 1 grade 080 M 46) for bars or BS 1449 50 HS or CS for plate, sheet, & strip.

SS 400 is from JIS G 3101, Rolled Steels for General Structure.  Stahlschluessel lists no requirements other than max P & S = 0.050.  Equivalent German grade is given as 1.0040, which has the following composition:

C = 0.25 max
Si = trace
Mn = 0.20-0.50
N = 0.007 max

I do not believe A20179-T4 is the proper designation.  A201 is an aluminum casting alloy, and 2017 2019 are wrought aluminum alloys.  T4 is a temper designation - solution treated and naturally aged.  Please confirm the designation.  The Kashima note is likely referring to a 30 micron anodic coating.  It has been used by Yamaha for reducing friction on front motorcycle forks.

YH52 appears to be aluminum alloy 5052, which is BS EN 573-2 grade EN AW-5052 [AlMg2.5].

STS38 is an old designation for the new grade STS 370 according to JIS G3455, Pipes for High Pressure Service.  Composition is C = 0.25 max, Si = 0.10-0.35, Mn = 0.30-0.90, P & S = 0.035 max.  BS 3602, 3603, or 3604 may be equivalent standards.

Thankyou very much TVP.  Most helpful!

RE: Japanese Material Specs.

I also have this problem but with the materials

SWPA

and

SUJ7

RE: Japanese Material Specs.

I could not find reference to either of these grades.  SUJ 1, SUJ 2, ... SUJ 5 are bearing grades according to JIS G 4805.  Perhaps SUJ 7 is a new grade.  Is it possible that the grade is supposed to be SUP 7?  This is a spring steel with the following composition:

C = 0.56-0.64
Si = 1.80-2.20
Mn = 0.70-1.00
P & S = 0.035 max
Cu = 0.30 max

This grade is similar to SAE 9260 (or 9260H) or 60 Si 7 (EN 89, DIN 17221)

RE: Japanese Material Specs.

Thanks a lot. That helped me out.

RE: Japanese Material Specs.

Sorry I just realized that that answer was for British standards. I actually need the North American standard. If anyone has this info, it would be appreciated.
