Welding ASTM A606

Welding ASTM A606

In the A606 specification two conditions are noted for this steel, "as-rolled" and annealed; the mech. properties of annealed are about 10% less than as rolled.  I am concerned that welding as-rolled material alters the properties to the annealed values in the HAZ.  Does anyone know if this is true?

RE: Welding ASTM A606

Don't worry. Welding of hot rolled A-606 will not "anneal" the HAZ to the lower strength of annealed A-606.

Stanweld,

Thanks.  What's curious is why AWS D1.1 only reports the annealed values for A606 in the material tables.

RE: Welding ASTM A606

AWS D1.1 is simply giving the minimum strength of A-606 since there are no "grade" designations.
