Looking for simulation software

Looking for simulation software

Looking for simulation software

(OP)
Does anyone know of something other than SPICE that is intended for line voltage AC circuit sims? A phase angle 6-SCR 3-phase circuit can take days to set up in SPICE & I am after something more specifically designed for electrical rather than electronics.

RE: Looking for simulation software

PSCAD-EMTDC is ideal for simulating rectifier systems.  It also has models of electrical machines, transmission lines, etc.  Highly recommended.  See http://wwww.pscad.com where you can down load a personal/evaluation edition

RE: Looking for simulation software

For 3-phase solutions with the ability to simulate switching transients an electromagnetic transients program (EMTP) is suitable. It is available free of charge at www.emtp.org

For single phase steady state solutions you have many choices, depending on the size of the simulated system. We use PSS/E, which is offered by Power Technologies Inc. It has capability for 80,000 busses and it’s not cheap.

Power World has also come up with simulation software which has animated graphics and it is also quite expensive. You can download a demo version at http://www.powerworld.com
