Acceptance tests for Milling Machines

(OP)
We use stiffness as a measure of stability of a milling machine. When the tool is located at an extreme position, we try to maximize Newton/micron as measure of stiffness in X/YZ directions at the tool base. What about damping? With newer welded instead of cast stands, damping has grown as an important issue. What would you recommend as aceptance stiffness and damping for 1. repair workshop manual duomill milling m. 2. medium speed steel CNC motorspindle milling machine 3. high capacity brass CNC motorspindle milling machine. Any difference in cast or steel stand?
