soder wire or paste?

soder wire or paste?

soder wire or paste?

(OP)
Hi All,

I am doing some technology assessments in a very unfamiliar area and could use some very basic help....

In the manufacturing of printed circuit boards - are manufacturers more likely to use solder pastes or solder wires?  Or does it matter?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

RE: soder wire or paste?

depends on whether it's manual or automated solder.  A fully automated assembly would use solder paste or preforms, do a pick&place and the something like an infrared reflow.

A semi-manual process would probably use paste.

A purely manual garage-shop type operation would use solder wire with possibly some preforms.
