Pigeon droppings health hazard

Pigeon droppings health hazard

Pigeon droppings health hazard

(OP)
Hello everyone,
I work in a facility (100 yr old building) which has some areas that have been infiltrated by pidgeons.  The area now contains large amounts of dried pidgeon droppings, carcasses and associated debris.
What are the health hazards associated with pidgeon droppings?
What preventive measures should be taken when entering/working in those areas?
Thank You
wbd

RE: Pigeon droppings health hazard

Problems is primarly a respiratory health hazard from bacteria in the droppings/dust.  More than 60 transmissible diseases (some of which are fatal) are associated with pigeons, starlings and house sparrows droppings.

Wear HEPA filter respirators during entry into the area.  Hire a specialist for clean up.

RE: Pigeon droppings health hazard

Watch out for the West Nile Virus.
