Electrically acutated release mechanism

Electrically acutated release mechanism

(OP)
Dear Sirs,

I am in the process of designing a new product.  I am looking for a way to electrically acuate a release mechanism for a sping loaded device from a push button. The small cylindical device 2-3" in length, 1-1.5" in diameter.  It will have an internal spring that you will be able to "cock" back an outer plastic cylinder that surrounds a 6" long rod, (.5" diameter).  Although unrelated, imagine cocking back a shotgun and using a low voltage signal, causing it to release.

The release mechanism will have to be very small, as the overall length of the device is 2-3"

I had thoughts of a apartment door release buzzer, but it is too large.

If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Heath Hummel

RE: Electrically acutated release mechanism

How about an access control part? VonDuprin, Folger Adams ect. might work. They come in different voltages and sizes.

RE: Electrically acutated release mechanism

Try electroforce. They manufacture solenoids and actuators of various types, some quite small.

RE: Electrically acutated release mechanism

Sounds like your talking about a solenoid, or a relay.
buy a solenoid, make a series circuit with a switch, a solenoid and the battery. there you have it.

I hope Im not off, this is a very simple 101electrical question.
