HYDRAULIC ACCUMULATORS

(OP)
Can anyone tell me, why is Nitrogen the chosen gas in hydraulic accumulators?
Why not compressed air or other gas for example?

RE: HYDRAULIC ACCUMULATORS

Any gas that will not oxidize the fluid on the fluid side can be used, nitrogen has good performance during temperature change, is inert, and is relatively inexpensive. Compressed air could cause an explosion at high pressure and temperature if there is any seal leakage.
