Completion of Partially Fabricated Vessel

Completion of Partially Fabricated Vessel

Completion of Partially Fabricated Vessel

(OP)
My shop is an ASME U Stamp holder.  We have been asked to collect the components of a partially fabricated Section VIII vessel from a shop that has declared bankruptcy and complete the fabrication.  The cylindrical shell sections are rolled and long-seam welded; the spun heads are welded to shell sections; some of the circumfrential welds are complete; some of the nozzles are complete. Can anyone offer any tips or potential pitfalls in completing fabrications started by others?

I have had experience with this in the past at the time of transition from one shop to another a partial data report was made by the shop and AI before shipping.  Completed nozzles, weld seams, shell sections etc were noted in detail on the partial data report.  The quailty of the existing fabrication is unkown, and would be wise to RT or perform other NDE to ensure integity of weldments.  Be advised that componets/sections covered by the parital data report have already meet the requirements of Section VIII, any RT and other NDE would be beyond required by code(duplication of) and customer specifcations, and more than likely be at your cost. In the end this vessel will bear your company name on the nameplate. Referemce UG-11 and UG-120 conerning parts manufactured other than the vessel shop.

Review SecVIII UG-10,UG-11,UG-120(c). TALK TO YOUR AIA.
