Construction Equipment Loads / FS

Construction Equipment Loads / FS

Construction Equipment Loads / FS

(OP)
Where would I be able to find loads for construction equipment - in particular I need the load to use for an 8-ton vibratory roller. Also what factors of safety are used for construction loads - I have not heard or seen any standard numbers.

Thanks

RE: Construction Equipment Loads / FS

Contact the manufacturer of the roller or other equipment.  You may want to be very conservative by factoring in 120% to 200% for impact loading if you cannot control how the equipment will be operated.  Usually, it is the responsibility of the Contractor to safeguard the work from damage during construction, which is very often the most critical time in the life of any structure.

RE: Construction Equipment Loads / FS

As RWF7437 suggests, you can obtain all of the technical loading information you need from the manufacturer.  The technical rep at an equipment dealer closest to your location is where I would start. All major tire manufactures also have good technical information including ground contact areas, pressures, etc. I am interested to know what you are analyzing.

RE: Construction Equipment Loads / FS

ASCE 37 in addition to ASCE 7-02 deal with load cases for construction.

The literature provided from many manufacturers is very vague in that the literature provided give a weight, but does not define what this weight includes. I am not familiar with the loads of a vibratory roller, however, all the manufacturers info I use on Forklifts is very vague.

How will the roller be used? On a finished structure in use, or during construction?

Good luck,

Daniel

you also need to assume that finish grade on structures or pipes may not be in place when the loading is applied.  as stated by rwf7437, this is best left up to the contractor.
