whitemetal and US Legisation?

whitemetal and US Legisation?

whitemetal and US Legisation?

(OP)
I have been told that planned or implemented Legisation in US forbid or will forbid the use of Whitemetal bearings in fields like sterntube bearings or rudder bearings.
However I have not been able to find any info.
Can anybody help me??

RE: whitemetal and US Legisation?

I have not heard of this. If true, the only reason I can think of (to legislate out the use of white metal for stern tube & rudder bearings) is to reduce (1) the risk of marine pollution from lubricating oil leaks resulting from failed stern tube seals, (2)highly toxic to marine life tin & lead compounds that can make up white metal. (2)is a bit of a stretch and there are alternative oil lubricated bearings instead of white metal bearings and they eliminate tin & lead, but not oil. I suspect that if there comes legislation that you describe it will be aimed at all oil lubricated bearings rather than only white metal.
As far as failed seals and resulting oil loss prevention have a look at www.quickwater.com.au   ;
