Prof. quark lecturing? ;)

thx for the hint.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Quark!

Thanks man - both the book and the site are extremely useful to this muddling nuclear turned mechanical engineer!

Yours sincerely,

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

quark,

fyi...

yes, i obtained the book sometime ago and even contacted the professor about obtaining the answers to chapter questions.  the response was similar to unfortunately no; however, we will consider a future release in a manner that does not jeopardize the education of students.  something similar.
thanks for the post!

Pmover!

It would be childish, but still if they atleast give the answers we can somehow cook up the solutions. I sincerely feel that it was a great effort by the authors. Thanks to them.

Phex!

Though I am much interested, they require a masters degree here for lecturing . Hard luck for me, for I have only bachelors degree.

Best Regards,

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

come over here, then. they require heaps of things here, but noone cares ;)

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Greetings QUARK

Thanks for the link to MIT.

Re: second site, I get to the "home page" but items I select give me "cannot open page"

Any suggestions/

Just clicked and it is fine. Try from another computer or empty out c:\windows\temp and c:\windows\temporaty internet files directories, clear the history and then check again. This generally works.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Quark,I wont download the book until next week because I want to compare its contents w/ my old heat transfer textbook which dates back to 1969. By your account do you think that its is worthwhile to download it to upgrade my reference?  How is the topic on ablation?

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

thanks very much, you are a good man !

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Thank you quark for the information & All the very best.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Hi,

I am a late comer here. Probably the link is not functional Can anybody help me please.

Ali Ansari

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

The link worked for me just today.  I downloaded the book about a week ago but tried to link again today and it still works.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Quark,

I downloaded the book today. It looks fantastic. I spended way to much money on smaller books like these. And they are just for free on the net!

You`re great.

Regards,

Lantyr

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

wow
i manager to download today
wonderful.

how many more stars for u Mr Quark.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

If you do a google search on free engineering books you will be amazed what goodies you can stumble upon.

I have the heat transfer book on a CD and it is a valuable reference.

Sharing knowledge is a way to immortality

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Can anybody share/provide data sheets on Thermophysical properties of gases (Air).
Thanks
Shankar.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Probably info. given in Perry VI, Tables 3-211, 3-211, 3-213 and 3-214 plus fig 3-15 and 3-16 would be sufficient.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Hi sgyiar,
There are many books are available to give the properties of gases in polynomial form also, which is very useful for writing codes or create your own table with different intervals in a spread sheet depending on your reqirement.
I am suggesting the following books
1. Fundamentals of gas turbines 2nd Ed by William W Bathie.(page No 27)

2.An introduction to Combustion by Stephen R Turns (page No.540 & 541)

3.NASA/TP—2001-210959/REV1 by Michael J. Zehe, Sanford Gordon, and Bonnie J. McBride
Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio.

If you need any further help inform me.

Regards,
KMPillai

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Mr. Quark,
thanks a lot for the free book!
However, do you know if there is any author that continue the work of Keys & London in the study of different geometries of surfaces in compact heat exchangers?

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

(OP)
Steco!

Generally I don't much deal with heat exchangers, except checking the design of exchangers what we use. Kays and London is the best book in my view and I didn't come across anything else so far.

However just try www.alfalaval.com. I think they have a free software and some data on compact heat exchangers.

Regards,

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Hey Quark

    Keep up the good work.
    Thanks.

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Quartz

That is about what I have been looking for: a Heat Transfer text book since I graduated about 11 years ago and took that course 14 years ago when I was 19-20, I remember I didn't sell the book but I guess it's MIA.
You realized you just saved me $$$...Thank you!!!

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Thanks so much. You worth hundreds of stars!!

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

thank you for your good site Quark.
there is a good site www.knovel.com which you can down load alot of books in diferent subjects including engineering.
you can download books for a 7day trail (for free) in three diferent catuguries.

mohammad

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

If you have a fast internet line it is better to take the "24 hours any book title you want" option in www.knovel.com

RE: Free Heat Transfer Book !

Please forgive if the information I'm asking for is hidden somewhere in the links this thread generated. That's part of my problem: searching yields too many hits and none have panned out for me, so far.
I am looking for a table containing (average) energy conversion rate values, for such things as internal combustion engines, steam turbines, diesel generators, and in general, energy conversion equipment. I don't need this for a specific machine, just ballpark figures. Can someone point me at such a table? I think I have found many of the more general resource sites on the net and while some provide some of the information I am looking for, I have not found everything I need. Help will be much appreciated.
