"Hybrid" I-beam - ribbed metal web, wood flanges
"Hybrid" I-beam - ribbed metal web, wood flanges
(OP)
What does anyone out there heard know about an I-beam product I saw while traveling in Europe recently? It was used for both floor and roof support. Apparently it had an excellent market as an alternative to gluelam beams, and it really shines in the market for spans between 20 and 50 feet. It consisted of a "custom-corrugated" galvanized web, and finger-jointed wood flanges, in various sizes and configurations to suit various loads. I wish to learn more about the product and its applications, if it's available in North America.
If it's not already obvious, I am not a structural engineer, merely an avid fan of the sport. At the appropriate point I will, naturally, engage one of you fine folk. Regards, Bouche
