Calculations for Power Consumption

Calculations for Power Consumption

Dear friends
If anybody know how to calculate the transformer power consumption in KW,
please let me know
with best wishes

RE: Calculations for Power Consumption

Is this question correct?, I do not think of a transformer as a power consumer (apart from losses, which may be the originators question??)it has a power rating at which it will effectivly operate.
Watts or kilowatts is dirived from volts x amps or as the other responder said kva multiplied by the power factor.

am I correct ??

RE: Calculations for Power Consumption

Power consumption = no-load losses plus load losses.

no-load (iron) losses at rated voltage and load (copper) losses at rated load can be found from factory test reports.  To get no-load losses at other than rated voltage multiply by (V/Vrated)².  For load losses at a different load, multiply by (kVA/kVArated)².

RE: Calculations for Power Consumption

As a rule of thumb, if you're looking say to design an HVAC system to cool the transformer, 2% of transformer kVA rating will give you a reasonable heat load in kW.
