field and armature winding

field and armature winding

field and armature winding

in an ac motor is it ok to substitute a bifilar winding with say 20 turns of 20 guage wire with  winding 20 turns twice with one in hand.

RE: field and armature winding

Question: Please, what are you trying to accomplish?

RE: field and armature winding

(OP)
i need to know if the following windings are equivalent for a AC motor.
i know they work for DC but for AC they were known to cause some spikes or something.

1) 20 turns of 20/20 guage wire ( 20/20 meaning bifilar or 2 wires in hand)
2) 20 turns of 20 guage wire wound twice ( not simultaenously so you wind one coil then wind the second then come back t o wind the first coil again)

RE: field and armature winding

If you are just laying "one in hand" on top of the other one in hand coil you just laid in the slots and then connecting them in parallel, the answer is YES. Your circular mills are still the same and the circuit is still the same.

RE: field and armature winding

So there is no effect if the motor is an AC motor

i had heard there are some spikes ot something like that if the windings are not true bifilar

RE: field and armature winding

The motors I deal with are simple AC squirrel cage type. So my answer is limited to that type. Placing one coil on top of another instead of winding them both together ("two in hand") should make no difference!
