Installing SW Question

Installing SW Question

Installing SW Question

(OP)
Hi all,

I am trying to install SW 2001+ on my Win XP pro machine, and am having a bit of difficulty. I choose install SW, and the setup screen comes up, and the status bar goes, and stops about a quarter way up, and i get an error to the tune of
"cannot load dcom95.exe in some temp folder,
cyclic redundancy"

Not sure what this is about.... I cant try the windows installer installation as the second disc has grown legs and walked off into the sunset...

Any suggestions? Thanks in advnace!

the system specs are:
AMD athlon XP 1700+
768mb DDR PC2700
Nvidia FX5200 128mb AGP

RE: Installing SW Question

Don't use the WI install on the SW01+ CD's...Use Traditional. Try cleaning out your Temp folders under your Documents and Settings\[login name]\Local settings\Temp

RE: Installing SW Question

i will check that. its a clean install of win XP, so they should be pretty clean i would think...

on a side note, SW 2003 installs fine, but when i try to exit the program, its hangs for a bit, disappears, and gives an unhandled error. weird...

unfortunately my work has suspened the subscription services, for money reasons, and we cannot try out se4rvice packs. :( Looks like i'll ahve to convince them otherwise, if the SP's might help.

RE: Installing SW Question

err... should DCom even *be needed* on an NT-based machine?

RE: Installing SW Question

If your still only using the SP0.0 I would try and get at least SP6.0 for SW01+. That might help. Also for unhandled errors, those types are very random and could amount to almost anything. You should try FAQ559-507 sometimes that fixes Unhandled errors or it could be just because of your SP your using that's giving you that error.

RE: Installing SW Question

(OP)
well i'd love to try sp6.0, but i cant install sw2001+, nor do we have the subscription service anymore to gain access to SP's unfortunatley...

I will try the steps outlined in the FAQ you've pointed out! Thanks.

RE: Installing SW Question

(OP)
well its a no go on SW 2003 with the FAQ suggestion above.

Any other suggestions? Unfortunatley the unhandled error message is a vague as could be, it just says, and unhandled error and no description at all.

Also if i get an SP from a friend in another company, will it work on my solidworks? I tried with one person, and the installation went fine, but when i try to run it, it says,

"this version of Solidworks has not been commisioned properly?

are these packs serial number specific now? they never used to be. Thanks for any suggestions.

RE: Installing SW Question

(OP)
well i've tried yet another SP, this time sp3.1, and again the same

"this version of Solidworks has not been commisioned properly.

perhaps the service pack checks somehow for a subcription validity? it installs fine, but then when starting the prog, i get that error, and it shuts down.

I feel if this is the case, then Solidwork is pretty greedy for money when u have to pay "more" for updates to obviously flawed software, when you've already shelled out quite a bit of money in the first place....just my .02 cents

RE: Installing SW Question

I'm just throwing things out...

Have you checked with the VAR that sold you SW03?
Is there any chance that you need a dongle?
What SP of WinXP are you on?

Wanna Tip? FAQ731-376
"Probable impossibilities are to be preferred to improbable possibilities."

RE: Installing SW Question

(OP)
no, we definately dont need a dongle, as the software was working b4 the service pack, it would just crash when you'd be finished using it. i figured it was a small bug that a service pack might help.

I contected the reseller, and since the error is so vague, they say well we dont know what it might be.....try a service pack. :(

RE: Installing SW Question

Cyclic redundancy is an error checking algorithm. I think your cd or cd drive is not feeling too well and your getting read errors.

RE: Installing SW Question

(OP)
well all is well now. we got a disc with sp3.0 integrated, and is running like a dream! thanks for all the suggestions everyone! :)

RE: Installing SW Question

How about the old so-obvious-that-you-may-have-missed-it.

Have you remembered to turn off your antivirus software before you attempt to load SW?

3/4 of all the Spam produced goes to Hawaii - shame that's not true of SPAM also.......

RE: Installing SW Question

(OP)
yeah virus software was disabled when trying to install. SP3.0 must have had some fix that i needed!

RE: Installing SW Question

try to copy the cd all files to one folder
then try to install from there
If during copy you get a message means you cd has

CRC  error cyclic reduncancy check
bb
