Integral Bridge Design
Integral Bridge Design
(OP)
Hi!
I'm just been introduced to this site by my friend and i found it very useful for young engineers to get some idea of doing some bridge design.
I've been tasked by my company to design an integral bridge using British Standard as code of practice. Could anybody please suggest any reference on how to do the integral bridge design? or a rough brief on the design steps?

RE: Integral Bridge Design
Why have they tasked you to do this with no guidance, shame on them. Bridge analysis and design must be done under the guidance of an experienced bridge engineer. If there is no such person within the office, hire one.

There is a lot of reference on the web.
I would like to give you some guidance but i do not have the British Standard. I could try giving you some tips based on AASHTO standard that is the reference i have
But all this is on structural design, you have to have all the preliminar studies and a selected type of bridge to beging.

Actually there were few senior engineers which i can count to. It just to have general idea of what is it and how to begin with. At least i got some idea before getting started and that will ease my job.

Here are few pointers:
1)For integral bridges with steel superstructures, you can download a publication "Integral abutments for Steel Bridges" which is available from this site:
http://www.steel.org/infrastructure/bridges/index.html
2)Continuous and Integral Bridges: Proceedings of the Henderson Colloquium 'Towards Joint-Free Bridges' by B. Pritchard
3) Article "Integral Bridges and Jointless Bridges" by Vasan Mistry of FHWA available from http://www.nabro.unl.edu/articles/
4)New Jersey Bridge manual http://www.state.nj.us/transportation/cpm/BridgeManualMetricPDF/bmsec15.pdf
5) Missouri Bridge manual mentioned above
