CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

(OP)
HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE DISTANCE IN AN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION
WITH OUT IT CHANGING THE PREVIOUS ONE. I,VE TRIED "THIS CONFIGURATION", AND "SPECIFY CONFIGURATION" CAN ANYONE HELP

beginner

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

In the new config, supress the old Distance Mate, then create a new one with the new value.

When you switch between configs, the Distance mate should resolve or supress as required.

Wanna Tip? FAQ731-376

THANKS MADMANGO IT WORKED PERFECT!

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

We use configuration specific mate values all the time.  Values can be generated with a design table, though it's not necessary, to mimic positions of travel or adjustment.  Surpressing/Unsurpressing individual mates will work but is not needed and would become a pain with more than a few configurations.  If this function is not working properly for you contact your VAR and insist that it be repaired.

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

There is no option to specify the distance to a certain configuration.  The only options I have are "Mate Settings".  There isn't the usual configuration settings.  This is wierd because the help says you can specify a certain configuration with mates.  Is there an upgrade or patch somewhere that will fix this?  Or am I not looking in the right area?

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

I think 2004 added support for mate distance values in configurations.

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

Sloth4z, what you have to do is create configurations of your parts that have the different lengths you are looking for.

Then in the assy, you can specify which part-configurations you want to use, and create a new assy-configuration with that info.  You have to go into the Component Properties of the part to select the configuration desired.

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

MadMango: I'm trying to configure the distances between the parts, not the parts themselves.  Thanks Though.

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

Then make new configs in the assembly, then you can control the distances between the parts at the assembly stage.

Search the help on configs if you haven't already. It will show you how to do it there.

RE: CHANGING DISTANCES IN ASSEMBLY CONFIGURATION

SBaugh: I've searched the help; all it says is that you CAN do it, not HOW.  I've created different configurations.  When I mate two part faces to be a certain distance there is no option to make it configuration specific.  Even after I've made the mate and right click on it and select Edit Definition, no configuration option.  If I right click and choose properties, the only configuration option I get is to supress it.

I just figured out how to do it.  For some reason you are not allowed to specify configurations of mates in the "Edit Definition" like other things.  If you double click the mate and change it that way, the option to specify the configuration will be there.  Thanks everyone for your help.
