Computer problems with paper space...

Computer problems with paper space...

(OP)
I have a model where I've cut 15 different dwg.s from it and I have a tab per dwg. My problem is this, when I go thru the drawing to change the rev. block, I have to call up each dwg to do this. The first 5 dwg.s are no problem, but after that the computer starts to slow down to a point it almost locks up! Then when I end out of the file, it will end out ok, but if I try to call it back up it gives me a message that the dwg is in use and would I like a read only file! It'll take about 30 to 50 minutes before I can access the original file again. One last thing, I noticed when the computer starts to slow down, I see a message about caching view ports. Is there a "switch" or setting in AutoCAD where I can eliminate this problem? THX! ...Mark

RE: Computer problems with paper space...

without more info, i would guess that you need more RAM installed. but if you computer specs aren't up to snuff, then the RAM may not help.
please re-post with specs., acad version, and anything else that might be helpful

Try this:  Go into your options, system tab, and check the layout regen options.  I have a feeling yours is checked on "cache model tab and all layouts"
If so, change it to one of the other two options.
What the last option does is store the view of the tab you are working in so that when you get back into it, it opens very quickly, rather than doing a regen. As you switch to other tabs, it keeps adding up. The problem is that this eats up your system resources.  Every tab you have is being stored.  (You can see this by turning on your system monitor and watch the available memory get used up as you switch layout tabs)

Anyway, try changing it and see if that helps

Chris ...MAN you have saved my BACON here!!! You were right, I changed it to "cache model tab and last layout" and just rifled thru all 15 dwg.s! I knew it was some kinda AutoCAD switch somewhere. THX. AGAIN!!! ...Mark(11echo)
