Animal Control in Substations

Animal Control in Substations

(OP)
I am curious as to what other utilities are doing to reduce animal outages in the lower voltage substations. We currently use bus tubing and insulator covers and are looking into bird repellant gels and liquids. Has anyone had any experience with either item?

RE: Animal Control in Substations

One of our clients has used squirrel guards on their 25 kV substation insulators with apparent success.

There is a lot of information in http://www.ecg-llc.com/acomenu.html Animal-Caused Outages - Problems and Solutions

Utilities are also using track-resistant polymer stand-off insulators, such as cypoxy insulators.
