Masonry Fire Damage

Masonry Fire Damage

Masonry Fire Damage

(OP)
I am trying to find information on fire damage to brick mosonry. I have been tasked to determine what damage was caused as a result of a fire vs what damage already existed in the brick masonry prior to the fire. I still don't have all the details about the fire only that it occurred in an adjecent building, approximately 10 feet from the exterior brick wall that I am evaluating. The existing wall is three storeys and approximately 50 years old and shows signs of spalling, cracks and missing mortar. It was reported that no water was sprayed directly onto the wall that I am investigating.

RE: Masonry Fire Damage

first have the mortar checked using petrographicly for damage.  send samples of the mortar that was exposed and not exposed to combustion products of the fire, to determin depth of carbonation.
