Corrosion on Bearing Race

Corrosion on Bearing Race

Corrosion on Bearing Race

(OP)
I have damaged inner and outer races from a roller bearing that show discoloration (bluish and red/orange)markings parallel with the roller axis.  I believe the discoloration may be due to corrosion but I'm really not sure.  Is there anyone out there that I could send a photo of the bearing to that wouldn't mind taking a look and seeing what they think?  Or is there a way of posting a photo on this webpage?

RE: Corrosion on Bearing Race

It's not uncommon to find such marks on bearing races that have been stationary for extended periods.  The marks (lines if a roller bearing) will match the roller spacing.

Dunno how to post photos here, but you can send one or more to me at  benesesso@yahoo.com (hopefully not bitmaps!).
