Has anyone out there seen an API standard (or other std.)  that specifies what velocities are required in pipe for fluid and steam flow adequate to loosen all scale and foreign materials?

RE: Flushing Velocities

ASME NQA-1-2000, AWWA C651, ASTM A380 and ASTM STP 491,would be referred.

RE: Flushing Velocities

There is an article in the July 1988 copy of Hydrocarbon Processing by J.C. Junique entitled "Flush or Blow Lines Adequately."  The article describes how to calculate velocities required to produce a high enough drag force to remove all materials that could be disturbed during operations.  I have seen excerpts of this article, and I've got my librarian trying to track down the full version.  If you can get your hands on that article, it should answer your questions...

Thanks a lot for the help.

RE: Flushing Velocities

Well, what do you know, we have that issue in our library (and someone even has taken the time at some point to put the issues in order!!!!).

If you want a copy, drop me a line at testdog2000@yahoo.com and I'll send you a scanned copy as a PDF.  Please do not just post here 'send me a copy', it gets difficult to keep track who I've sent it to and who I haven't.  Send the email.
