Speed vs Size of particles

Speed vs Size of particles

Speed vs Size of particles

(OP)
Hi all,

Does anybody know any correlation between gas velocity in pipes and the size (any kind of measurement e.g. weight, length or average diameter) of particles (usually dust or rust or black powder) that can be "lifted" and transported in the pipe under the specific gas velocity.

My problem is to get rid of as much dust as I can from a steel pipe 10" diameter, 5.5 km long. The pipeline is not commissioned yet. Right now it has 2 bar nitrogen. No pigging possible. No cutting the pipe is permitted (due to lack of time, must be commissioned in less than 2 weeks). MOP is 19 bar. I am thinking of pressurising it with 8 bar of air and then releasing it from one end. My calculations say that inside the pipe the max speed will be around 1 m/s, so I want to know if it is worthy.

I appreciate any recommendation.
