Structural Analysis and Design Software
Structural Analysis and Design Software
(OP)
I am interested in structural analysis and design software for R.C. continuous beams. Software such as Staad or Sap are more oriented to 2d frames and 3d frames or plates.
Any suggestions?

RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
I have come across very cheap software from Archon Engineering which includes a program called Wincrete which checks designs for RC Beams including multi-span. They also have nice programs for other structural areas. Their website is www.archeng.com

RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Once again I have given the wrong website for a company. The website for Archon Engineering is www.archoneng.com
Its worth a visit. You can download a shareware version of all of their software programs.

Mike
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Thank you for your reply. I am checking the site out.
Many structural software companies give fantastic descriptions regarding their products. But when tested, they may not suit one's needs. Therefore, it is important that structural software companies allow downloading shareware versions for a limited time period.

RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Apologies for the wrong address. CADS can be found on www.cads.co.uk Another avenue you may wish to try is the OASYS system by Arup. i don't have an address for their OASYS site but Arup are pretty easy to locate worldwide and someone there should be able to help you. Good Luck

Please try www.avansse.com site.
They have very usefull and user friendly software. I am talking about AVwin and Gedi. Particulary Gedi will let you generate interactively all the parts of a concrete building.
I am a user of those programs and I feel very confortable.
Let me know your opinion after visiting the site, please.
Best Regards,
Carlos
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
I have come upon a nice program called prokon. It is very easy to use and based on British and South African Standards.
Hasan
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
I have used Prokon and its good and affordable. A more expensive option for design and detailing that it really worthwhile, (I thought anyway) is CADS 8110 - it is a structural analysis, design, drafting and detailing package I came across when I was in Singapore. I don't have a web address for them but they were marketted by a company called QE Design Systems in Singapore - Tel: 65 224 2883; fax no: 65 2218928
There is also an Australian package I foudn to be very good called SpaceGASS. Again I don't have a web address but if you search for SpaceGass you should find it easily.
Good luck,
Bridgeman

I used to do these by hand in the 60's. In the late 70's I programed my own calc's in basic. Currently, I am using a spreadsheet approach to analysis, and seem to always be behind the curve in conforming to codes and standards.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
I am curently reviewing the CSC TEDDS package. It is a good tool which works in Word for documenting calculations & code requirements. The initial interface takes some time to understand. I'd like to hear your comments on it's use & applications.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Get a copy of Staad3 and you'll be able to do anything with trusses as well as anything else using steel or concrete. Also, Enercalc makes a program called FastFram, which can be downloaded, free, from their site but they don't update it and there is a bug in it. Good luck!
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
I have come across a good software for design and analysis of concrete structures, i hope this software might be of some use to u, check it out at this site - http://www.zentech-usa.com/concrete.htm.
There are somemore, but they are either too much or too little for your purspose. I remember encountering a similar problem once, fortunately this s/w was enuf for my needs. check it out if it suits u too,

RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Check out a company called Keymark. I tested a beta program by Keymark, designing light gage steel trusses in 1994, which probably has improved greatly since than. When wood was getting expensive in the early '90s, we did a lot of light gage steel design for residential structures. They can be reached at www.keymark.com.

i have expertise in modelling and analysing any type of structures using staadpro.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
hi 2610, what version of STAAD are you using?
STAAD PRO2000 OR 2001?
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
HI,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION.
I AM USING STAADPRO (VERSION III)FOR ANALYSIS PURPOSES.
TELL ME ABOUT ANY SOFTWARE THAT CAN BE USED TO ANALYZE OFFSHORE STRUCTURES.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Hi
Well, i dont know of any structural analysis software that would specially analyse offshore structures, maybe if you make a more detailed description of the structure you are dealing with, and the kind of analysis you want to do, i could help you. I guess that it has to do with structures subjected to impact loads from ships and sea wave loads. Maybe you could do all this with Sap2000, since this software is a little more powerful than STAAD III, and have better load generation capabilities.
I would like to know about your experiences with STAAD, since i also use that software. I would like to know if you consider it reliable.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
ive just seen a very interesting site:
www.zentech-usa.com/index.htm
They have a Software called STRUCAD 3d
i think this software is what you are looking for....
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
It's very affordable compared to others mentioned .
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Steel Smart System from ENR Solutions will do all kinds of light gage metal framing including trusses.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Here's a site that has Excel spreadsheets with various applications. I have gotten several of them and found them to be well written. Very professional use of visual basic macros.

If you wish to visit my website, we can discuss these or other issues further.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
THANKS BUT I COULD NOT FIND ANY CONCRETE DESIGN SOFTWARE.
RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
I would check the Algor program. It has been used for offshore platforms.

ERNESTOBARRERA ,
thank you for the information. I have visited the site. really they have the software which I need. But problem with me is I can not afford to buy the same.
I am presently involved in dynamic analysis of offshore fixed platform, which has got about 120 members of steel tubes having varing diameters.
problem in ussing staadpro is that it can't just calulate wave forces by taking in to wave heights, wave period and depth of water.
i have a problem of analysing the structure for the wave and wind force for different wave heights and periods.
the MORISSONS EQUATION has to be used to calculate the wave forces on each members, which becomes tedious process for different wave conditions.
my structure is like a tower, submerged in deeep water.
i need help from indivisuals or company who can analyse the tower and supply me the resuls like natural period, deck displacements, which I am using to train NeuralNetwork for predicting the responses of towers.
this is my Project work for M.Tech (structures) at Regional engineering college.
keep in touch. thank you in anticipation of suggestions.

RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
For offshore structures you want SACS (www.sacs-edi.com). The analysis of offshore structures is quite involved so I doubt you will be able to find anyone to donate the analysis. Good Luck anyway.

RE: Structural Analysis and Design Software
Please check the Reinforced Concrete Council's website below:
http://www.rcc-info.org.uk/
They have many spreadsheets for concrete design to BS 8110 and Eurocode 2, including continuous beam design. The spreadsheets used to be free but now there may be a small charge.

Check with your advisor. I guess that the proper modelization of the structures you're working with is an important part of your thesis work. Give a chance to RAM Advanse, it's an easy to use structural program that has several load tools that I guess would help you.

to 2610 and others interested:
Stop trying to force-fit a solution! If you are in a technical school/working on a MS thesis, GTSTRUDL has an excellent offshore module AND Georgia Tech (producers of GT STRUDL) offers GTSTRUDL to other colleges and universities and at cost; which is worth 2610 looking into!
