How can I calculate friction heat gain?
How can I calculate friction heat gain?
(OP)
I need to know an estimate of the temperature increase due to friction of chilled water (5 degrees C) over a 400m. long 300mm diam PE pipe. The mass flow rate is 190kg/m^3. I have worked on this at the office but cannot find any information on this. I hope someone can help me out.
Sincerely,
Richard Ellis

A simpler (and safer) way to work it out, as (confusely) suggested in that post, is to take the power input to the pump (a fraction of the power input to the motor of the pump, but take the latter to be safe) as equal to the heat input to the fluid that, I assume, you'll use as an increased heat load for the chiller.
