i am a proprietor of a civil and structural engg firm in India and would like to explore the possibilities of immigration to Canada. Our firm is a mamber of Consulting enginners association of India( CEA is a member of FIDIC and also the Engineering Council of India being currently formed by Indian Govt)I am also a founder member of Indian Association of Structural Engineers. The lack of respect and adequate compensation for engineers is forcing me to think of immigration.I am a graduate engineer with 22 years of experience in earthquake resistant designs and supervision of building projects in India.IO have done my M.Tech from IIT Delhi. My husband is a Computer Hardware Marketing Professional dealing with reputed international and national brands. I have two school going kids.Pl advise if it is feasible

RE: engg consultancy in canada

Anyone of you and your spouse know French?

I heard that this is a new pre condition to migrate. Check out with the High Commission.

RE: engg consultancy in canada

I assume you would be applying under the skilled worker classification. Take the online self assessment test at WWW.cic.gc.ca. If you satisfy the required points criteria, do the The Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE)assessment of your qualifications to determine your eligibility for PEng. registration. The Canadian High Commission will give you guidance on the requirements for immigration.

Your reasons for migrating to Canada may not neccessarily be resolved by immigration. I suggest you have a chat with collegues who have migrated to Canada as there are many obstacles and challenges for immigrant engineers.

Good Luck.

RE: engg consultancy in canada

Hi there. I too immigrated to Canada 3 years ago for the same reasons. Immigration part is much easier and I am sure, with your and your spouse's qualifications, you will definitely get the immigration. The job and settling part is a bit harder. The structural engineering market is on a slowdown and getting a proper job will be difficult in the beginning. For licencing as a professional engineer in Canada, you need to work with a licenced engineer for at least an year. Welcome aboard, only be prepared to all the eventuality.

Good Luck!
