Dear Phex,

Many thanks for your information.

It was further indicated that Occupational Exposure Limits TLV not established, could you please give me some more information whether this should have any relation not to catogerising SLS as a Dangerous Goods Cargo.

Thanks

RE: Is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a Dang

SLS is categorized as harmful substance and TLV is actually given on the page: 10 mg/m^3

but as there is no additional data concerning transportation - this is true for 25362's link too - i assume it is not neccessary to label it as dangerous goods cargo. don't pin me on this, though, i never handled that specific substance (apart from using it with my shampoo ;).

which in itself is a clue. it is a long known component of many shampoos, so there shouldn't be any problems for transportation and the lot.

hth,
chris

RE: Is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a Dang

I got some information today that this was classified as class 6 and the UN Code is 3249 or class 8 with Un No. 2837. It says they have got this information from CHEM WTACH, a disk contains chemical database and management system, provided by P & O Ports. But I could not access to this database / website for the clarification of this.

I would be greatful if anybody can help me to verification of the above information.

Thanks

Chemwatch is an ISO9000 quality certified company who is the world's largest supplier of independently researched material safety data sheets and related documents. We provide a full chemical management system on CD and via the Web.

at least the source looks to be trustworthy. i cant verify the numbers though, web access is to licensed users only, i think. at least i haven't found where to get them ;)

RE: Is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a Dang

This is a surfactant used in shampoo and personal care products.  The main hazard is as a marine pollutant and not a fire or toxic risk to people.
