Foundry Pattern Wear

Foundry Pattern Wear

Foundry Pattern Wear

(OP)
I am looking for alternative materials to use for patterns in our high pressure sand moulding foundry.  We are currently using P20 Tool Steel, sometimes nitrided. With certain pattern geometries, the patterns will wear beyond the accepted dimensional tolerance before expected.  What materials do other people use?

RE: Foundry Pattern Wear

What is the maximumn temperature that the patterns are subjected to while in service? What are the hardness requirements that you have for these patterns, and have you experienced cracking as a mode of failure? You mentioned that they are used in a high pressure sand moulding facility. What exactly are you producing with these patterns?
