Heat Transfer Coefficient for a Buried Pipe Circulating Water

Heat Transfer Coefficient for a Buried Pipe Circulating Water

(OP)
I have a 6" buried carbon steel pipe with a small circulating hot water flow rate of 15 usgpm through it.  I am looking for a reference to calculate the heat loss from the water through the pipe to the soil.  The water enters at 180F and I would like to determine the heat loss so that I can size a heater to replace heat lost to the surroundings.

Does any body know a reference for this type of problem or a heat loss coefficient under these conditions?

Thanks

Yes.  Post an email address.  I have a page out of SimSci's pipephase manual that I think is exactly what you are looking for.

Can you please send me the Sim Scis pipe phase sheet showing the heat transfer from a buried pipe with circulating hot water to the ground.  Thanks bob@wlc.ca

What you are not detailing is what is the condition of the soil?  Is it dry, saturated, what type is it---
