punch life in aluminum?

I am looking for imformation on recomended pierce punch (non-shear)life before sharpening. Punch is approx. .500" X .125" through .125" aluminum heat treated to 47.        I recomended a study to figure this out and was told someone should know. But of course no one there did.

RE: punch life in aluminum?

Could you explain what "non-shear pierce" would entail?  This is a contradiction in terms.

RE: punch life in aluminum?

In addition to ornerynorsk's question, please provide more information regarding the heat treating.  What does 47 mean?  Hardness?  Tensile strength?
