I was wondering if the new wildfire will let you save a file to an older version of Pro-E and keep the feature tree intact and if so , how far back in versions.

No.
You can save back to 2000i, but without the feature tree.

Wildfire 2+ will have some improvements using Granite, but they are limited to only going back to Wildfire.
