how to retain attributtes

I would like to explode blocks and retain attribute information. I have a number of test holes with the same block, but the test hole numbers disappear when I explode the blocks. I would like to explode the blocks and retain the line work and the attribute values for dxfing into an older and simpler cogo program.

BURST from Express tools

thanks cadaver

RE: how to retain attributtes

You're welcome, but I have to ask.  Why are you exploding blocks?  Once exploded, the attribute data is now "dumb" text, and can no longer be extracted or linked for outside manipulation.

Other options would include: EATTEDIT, REFEDIT, ATTSYNC, ATTREDEF, NCOPY and others that will leave the block intact but allow flexibility in editing.

I need to dxfout drawing to an older dos survey program (last update 1994). This program will not use or preserve Autocad blocks. It barely reads R12 and R14 dxf files. Most blocks are ignored. Usually I convert the blocks to "X's". As surveyors we are only concerned with the x,y,z values, not the graphical shape. In the above case, I recieved  a drawing with blocks definning test hole locations that the client wanted staked. The block was a circle with a double x in it. The point number was an attribute. When we exploded the blocks to dxfout we lost the point number. Hope this helps explain what I am trying to do. I haven't used Autocad since R12 and have a lot to catch up on. Once again, thanks for your help. I didn't find Burst but I did find  a command under the Express menu that did the same job.

RE: how to retain attributtes

Hi vicman2
express->blocks->"Explode Attributes To Text" = "burst"
