Replace .SLDPRT in an assembly.
Replace .SLDPRT in an assembly.
(OP)
I'm trying to replace one model for another in an assembly from which derived parts are taken.
How do you overcome the Internal ID SolidWorks (2001) looks at to make it happen?

RE: Replace .SLDPRT in an assembly.
As far as mates and other relations, you can give each entity (Face, edge, etc.) that is used in a mate a specific name (right-click-->Properties) In the replacement part, give each counterpart entity the same name. You may have some issues with direction of axes.
Usually, I don't go through that trouble. I just let the mates fall apart and fix them. If your assembly isn't too large, make a backup copy using SW Explorer, first.

Like TheTick said... you dont need to go so far as to naming entities. Just when you replace the part, select "re-attach mates" in the property manager and that will launch a tool to help you replace the mate entities with nothing more than a point and click effort.
You can also access this tool afterwards if you like by right-clicking on the mates folder and selecting replace mate entities.
