Main Steam Drain Valve

Main Steam Drain Valve

Main Steam Drain Valve

(OP)
At our plant, we have 2" globe valve for our main steam drain system which always failed to operate by high temperature. This will not happen during first start up (cold condition). For your information this valve has been being used for turbine start up. The normal operating temperature is 520 deg C and pressure 10340 kPa. We like to change the globe valve with a ball valve which we hope it will solve the current problem. Before we change the valve, we have to make sure that we replace with the right ball valve including size, cv and spec/app. Can any body help me to identify the right high temp/ press ball valve (spec, size) which equal to the current globe valve.

I suggest you give Mark Moeser of Liberty Automations & Controls a call.  509.370.6590

RE: Main Steam Drain Valve

Metal-seated ball valves are rated to ANSI Class VI leakage at best and have very high torque values. I normally use steam traps for main turbine drains. Plenty Products offers 2" traps in F22. Pressures to 10340 KPa at 570c are no problem. Capacities up to 30000 Kg/Hr at this criteria.

RE: Main Steam Drain Valve

Maybe you should run a check on your operators. After closing a valve, return a 1/3 turn, this from preventing the valve on getting stuck. This is valid for gate and globe valves.

RE: Main Steam Drain Valve

Consider purchasing valves mad specifically for boiler vents and drains. These valve have a screw pitch and materials selection designed to prevent sticking

Consider the venerable YARWAY Company and thier "Welbond" and "Singltron" designs.

RE: Main Steam Drain Valve

Contact Valvtechnologies at www.valv.com they have been making the valve you need for over a decade.

RE: Main Steam Drain Valve

I agree with valveguy Valvtechnologies will guarantee zero-leakage and back it up with a 4-year warranty
