Material Selection for Acidic Mine Water
Material Selection for Acidic Mine Water
(OP)
I would like some opinions on the best choice for materials for use in a valve passing slightly acidic water from an underground mine. I have done lots of research but most info is contradictary, I would like some info from experience if possible. I am only concerned with the corrosive aspects which arise from the acidity.
My opinion is a 360 Brass for the body and 17-4 water hardened SS with an 8 micro finish for the sliding spool member.
The water temp is always under 100F.
This product is cost sensitive and does not need a high safety factor so nothing exotic please.
Thank you!

What type of valve are you looking for? What are you doing with it? what type of material was being mined?

Many mine pumps are rubber-lined (urethane) or made from Cd4MCu (cast Ferralium 255). My 2 cents....
