Straightness Testing

Straightness Testing

Straightness Testing

(OP)
Hi

I'm having real difficulties trying to find out information about straightness testing in metrology.  The problem lies around having to find different methods (apart from gauges) used to measure errors in straightness, and the components that these methods are used to measure.

I'd be really gratefull for any usefull links or advice.

Cheers

RE: Straightness Testing

Not sure quite what you're asking (not much data given) but you might want to look at alignment telescopes and linear slides.

RE: Straightness Testing

Depends what you are measuring and the scale of the job.
Geomatics / theodolites, levels etc can be used if accuracy is to be of the order of mm or larger say on land, concrete slabs, alignment of rollers etc

Photogrammetry can be used in metrology appilcations eg surfaces car panels, aeroplane parts, propellers etc

Some very specialised Laser Theodolites have been made to do this from 1/50000 to 1/200000 accuracies

RE: Straightness Testing

Most Laser Alignment systems can perform Straightness measurements. The D510 includes 15 programs including: Horizontal, Vertical, Softfoot, Cardan Shaft, Offset and Angle, Spindle, Straightness, Center of circle, Flatness, Plumbline, Squareness, Parallelism and Flange. All for around $12K. For additional info on the system, go to:
