clean drawing views
clean drawing views
(OP)
When we make a CATdrawing from a surfaced part (or product), we get many extra lines and curves in the views.
We can clean-up the drawing by hiding or deleting the extra lines and curves, but they come back when we do an update.
Can anybody offer some suggestions or tips to avoid (or minimize) this extra work?
We're running V5R10 SP3
thanks, Jack

RE: clean drawing views
By default, all views will put any and all lines that are at corners or tangencies into the drawing views. Are you creating a section-view? If so, use section-cut to eliminate some of the extra lines you would otherwise need to hide in that view.
I also suggest that you hide instead of delete the lines you wish not to see. If you delete them, they will appear after any update. If you hide them, there is a good chance that they will not come back, unless you change that portion of the geometry, then it will come back during an update. There is currently a problem in Catia V5 R10 that some lines will move from show to no-show during updates. My APAR suggests that this is to be fixed in R11. I'll get to test that soon hopefully.
Hope this helps!!

RE: clean drawing views
In my particular case, I'm creating a simple 3-view drawing containing only the front, top and side views of an airplane that is currently modeled with surfaces only (no solids yet).
So, if we look at the front view, we get many curves on top of each other around the circumference of the body. Many curves at the nose area, even though there are no sharp edges. Many curves along the wing and tail areas.
We have tried hide as well, but the extra curves keep coming back when we modify the surfaces and update the drawing.

RE: clean drawing views
My APAR number is HC96702.
Yes, I have seen the geometry reappear after hiding if the associated geometry to those lines has been modified. As far as an answer from Dassault on that, I believe they'll say that "is as designed". Since that is a comment I've gotten on other PMRS regarding differences in drafting between shafts and pads.
Good luck and let me know if you get any better responses from Dassault on this.

RE: clean drawing views
I’m not sure if this applies but in the CATDrawing Working Views, try going to the specific view, go Properties -> View & turn off Fillets. Good Luck, 3MD21
RE: clean drawing views
PS: we just upgraded to R11SP6 - I'll see if that helps.
