I have modelled a 12' diameter concrete coal stacking tube that is 75' high and walls 12" thick using plates that are on 15 degree increments. The moments My which are longitudinal are very high at the bottom and go down very quickly up to about 12' from the bottom. This is not like you get with a cantilevered beam. Is this normal?

Yes it is.

Tanks behavior depends on diameter.

You can compare results with

Mamx=(1-1/(beta*d))*(gamma*radii*h*thickness)/(12*(1-poisson^2))^0.5

where beta=(3*(1-poisson^2)/(radii^2*thickness^2))^.25

In a tank, My will be positive and negative; in a cantilever beam will be negative always.
