Convert entities w/out filters

Convert entities w/out filters

(OP)
Does anyone know how to get the ability to convert entities (especially within an assembly sketch) of edges in SW 2003?  I can do it now, but need to mess with the selection filter toolbar (restrict the filter only to edges) to make it work.  Otherwise, I must use the select oter (right mouse menu) and pick something that is not a surface.

For some reason, I can no longer pick edges--even main contour edges.  What's going on?  Was a hidden feature added in to 2003 somewhere that I'm not finding?

By the way, this is on both a Win2000 machine and an XP Home machine (XP machine seems to do fine w/SW otherwise).

Thanks,

Do you have Lightweight components on?

Do you have Dynamic Highlight Turned on? That is located under Tools\Options\System Options\Display Selection

No, I don't use Lightweight components except in monster assemblies.

Yes Dynamic Highlight is on--is that a good thing?

I'll toggle it now and see what heppens.

RE: Convert entities w/out filters

Maybe you hit your "X" hotkey by accident and toggled Face Filter on/off?  I've been working all day converting edges of parts and assembly sketches, both faces and edges with SW03 SP1.0.

Do both your machines have the same graphics cards and drivers?  maybe swap cards to see if the problem moves.  If it does then you might have found a hardware problem.

Wanna Tip? FAQ731-376

Good point--however, the XP machine is a laptop with a built-in card and the 2000 machine has an old Oxygen card (reliable machine).

The more I mess with it, the more it seems to be an intermitant problem.  Sometimes I can select edges without going through the pain explained in my first post and sometimes it simply selects the edges.  I'm not sure what's changing between the two situations.

I'll keep an eye open to see if the hotkey may be an issue--I don't think so or I should see the selection filter buttons changing, right?

XP Home isn't a supported OS for SW. You maybe seeing a reason why it isn't supported. Also what video Card are you using on the Laptop? I have a GF4 440 it's one of the worst cards to have in a Laptop.

I'll need to double-check the card in the laptop later in the day--it's in a Sony VAIO, a fairly high-performance machine made primarily for video editing.  Otherwise the card seems to do quite well.
